1923 Wallet On Strap - Panama & Calfskin

Inspired by a design created in 1923, the 1923 wallet on strap is now available in a two-material version.

This Panama straw variation echoes one of Germaine Guérin’s most emblematic materials, widely used from the 1940s through to the early 1970s. Finely woven in Ecuador, the straw takes many days to weave before being assembled in our French workshops.

More than a century after its creation, the design retains an extraordinary modernity.

The Story

The 1923 Wallet on Strap

Inspired by a model featured in a 1923 publication, this wallet‑pouch pays tribute to one of the first models Germaine Guérin created. At a time when accessories were becoming declarations of style, the Maison was already asserting a singular vision: precise lines, balanced proportions, and functional elegance.

More than a simple wallet, the pouch according to Germaine Guérin is an object of character, designed to accompany movement and enhance one’s silhouette. Every detail reflects a heritage where decorative art converses with function, true to the creator’s pioneering spirit. An enduring savoir‑faire, reinterpreted today without ever betraying its origin.

THE MATERIAL MOMENT

PANAMA STRAW

This signature material of Germaine Guérin first appeared in the 1940s, as a result of the difficulty of sourcing leather.

Our Panama straw is selected for the fineness of its fibres and the precision of its weave. Handwoven in Ecuador, it is distinguished by its lightness, flexibility and even texture. Exceptionally fine, it lends each piece a natural elegance and a particular delicacy.

Germaine Guérin Emballage

Germaine Guérin Wrapping

Since the 1950s, our boxes have drawn inspiration from the iconic colours of the Paris Métropolitain and its famous entrances designed by Hector Guimard: the muted green of sculpted cast iron and the vanilla yellow known as the “cornichon” (gherkin).

All of our boxes and paper bags are made in France, as are the silk paper and the Germaine Guérin ribbon. The 100% cotton dust bag that protects our handbags is made in Italy.
